Technology System Planning

Historically, designing and constructing in the built environment involved only four main utilities: water, electricity, gas and telecommunications. However, today there is a fifth utility to consider: Technology Systems.
 
FDI has an entire division dedicated to this “fifth” utility and helping clients plan the infrastructure for technology systems so they can be fully functional, integrated and connected in their new spaces. Planning & Design

Addressing Technology Systems as the fifth utility reassures clients that infrastructure will be planned to maximize uptime and minimize downtime due to infrastructure obstacles. This could include pathways, power cooling and exposure to outdoor conditions (water filtration).

FDI incorporates clients’ specific requirements into architectural and engineering plans while developing technology plans. The end result is a utility that has the necessary redundancy in power, cooling and technology infrastructure. 

Qualifications

FDI design consultants are Registered Communication Distribution Designers (RCDD), a high-level certification required by the Department of Defense for those who design technology infrastructure for the U.S. Government.  RCDDs are recognized in the telecommunication industry as having demonstrated expertise in the design, implementation, integration and project management of telecommunications and data communications technology and related infrastructure. RCDD reference: UFC-3-580-01.

Specialty Services

In addition to Technology System Planning, FDI offers Medical Equipment Planning. This creates a powerful duo of services; the medical equipment planning group coordinates medical equipment connectivity and works with the client’s IT group to determine network requirements while simultaneously working with FDI’s Technology Systems Planning team.  This ensures the technology infrastructure design is thorough, encompassing all required elements, mitigating any design issues and ensuring immediate connectivity and functionality.
